Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday called for the structural overhaul of the country’s manufacturing sector, saying that the ‘Make in India’ initiative of India has become a ‘gathered’ practice under the present government. Gandhi also shared a seven -minute video of his journey at a TV assembly unit in Greater Noida, where he interacted with workers and owners. In the clip, he refers to the government’s policy as ‘gathered in India’ and emphasized the challenges faced by small scale entrepreneurs. He indicates the monopoly of a single major supplier in the TV parts industry, which he says that is squeezing the margin and discouraged competition.
Gandhi said in Hindi, “Until India becomes self -sufficient in production, jobs, development, and ‘Make in India’ will be only a speech.” He argued that only a grassroots change can make India a real manufacturing power.
The Congress MP alleged that while small businesses are eager to produce goods locally, they are weighed with state assistance, heavy taxation and an industrial ecosystem dominated by some large corporates. He said, “There is neither policy nor support. On the contrary, heavy taxes and monopoly have caught the country’s industry,” he said.
Last month, Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “mastering the art of slogans” without offering concrete solutions, claiming that India’s manufacturing sector is a record low despite the ‘Make in India’ campaigns of almost a decade.
Gandhi said during earlier conversations with mobile repair technicians at Nehru Place in Delhi, “We should stop forming a market for others. If we do not make here, we will continue to buy from those. They also shared a video of the meeting that required structural reforms and better financial assistance for the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of India.
