With a day to go to the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Sunday that more than 100 MPs have already signed a notice to bring a proposal to the House for the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Verma, which crosses the required number of signators.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rijiju, who was addressing the media after an unanimous meeting, said, “Signature is going on and it has already crossed 100,” and the Business Advisory Committee, an all-party group that decides the session’s agenda, will decide when the proposal will move.
According to Article 124 of the Constitution, a proposal for impeachment of a judge is to be signed by at least 100 MPs and 50 in the Rajya Sabha.
Once an impeachment is adopted by the House, a three -member committee is established by the speaker, which will include the Chief Justice of India or the Supreme Court judges, which will be its chief, and an Chief Justice of any High Court and a person who is a “reputed jurist”.
The government said that it would bring proposals during the monsoon session and has received support from various parties including the opposition, in the move against “corruption in the judiciary”.

Rijiju refused to comment on when the matter would be taken until the case is passed by the BAC with the approval of the chair.
Earlier, Justice Yashwant Verma, serving in the Delhi High Court, has been at the center of dispute since March 14, when firefighters discovered half -made cash made at their official residence in the national capital, as the fire broke out.

The then-CJI Sanjeev Khanna constituted a three-member committee of High Court judges to investigate the case, and on March 20, SC Collegium proposed that Nyaya Verma be transferred to the Allahabad High Court.
On May 4, after submitting the 64-page report of the committee, credibility was found on the charge of cash found at his official residence-CJI Khanna demanded Verma’s resignation, which was refused by the High Court judge.

Khanna then pushed the report forward to President Daupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the reply of Justice Verma. Khanna recommended the President to allegedly start the process of removing Verma.
Verma has been closed to judicial work since the transfer to Allahabad High Court. Opposing the allegations, he shifted the apex court against the conclusions of the committee, saying that the recovery of cash is not only his guilty.
