More than 1.73 lakh hectares of forest land in 10 years; 63%for mining, irrigation and roads: The Center tells the Lok Sabha. Bharat News

The Union Ministry of Environment approved the turn of 1,73,984.3 hectares of forest land for non-de-conscious purposes between 2014-15 and 2023-24, which the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Mining and mining regions, hydroelectric energy and irrigation areas, and road projects have around 63 percent diversion, with 40,096.17 hectares, 40,138.31 hectares and 30,605.69 hectares of forest land with three symptoms respectively.

Union Minister Congress MP Sukhdeo was answering a question by Bhagat, who asked whether the infrastructure and forest approval for industrial projects from 2014 to 2023 increased by more than 150 percent, which cited a center for science and environmental reports.

In his reply, the minister said that forest land was allowed for the use of non-fat in unavoidable conditions with adequate measures, including “compensatory afforestation and payment of pure current value”.

According to the minister’s reply, 17,232.69 hectares are responsible for the turn of 17,232.69 hectares in linear infrastructure projects like power transmission lines. The Ministry also approved 14,968.14 hectares of forest land for defense projects.

Railway projects had a turn of 7,998 hectares of forest land, while 2,644 hectares were diverted for the thermal power sector. For the “other” category, 9,669.85 hectares of forest land was twisted and 346.84 hectares for wind energy.

“The process of approval for the turn of forest land is a continuous process for various non-nine land turns under the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvarshan) Adhiam, 1980. During the period from 2014-15 to 2023-24, the forest area used for 173984.3 hectares has been approved.

Under the van Adhiam 1980, project supporters will have to receive approval from the Forest Advisory Committee of the Ministry before using or removing forest land for non-disrespect activities. A strong committee of the ministry’s regional offices examines projects in categories such as pipelines, railway, roadways and power lines with linear projects.
