Referring to him as a “rare source of hope for mistake and sound”, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Mehboba Mufti of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) urged the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Monday to “enhance the issue of” victimization, dissolution, controversy, disputes and intercourse.
In his letter, Mufti said that the Muslims of India chose to stay in the country due to their confidence in the Congress leadership and it was Gandhi’s “responsibility to protect him”. “The Muslims who had chosen to stay in India during partition, did this because of the confidence of Mahatma Gandhi to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru under the secular leadership of the Congress. Today, as the carrier of that heritage, the responsibility falls on our shoulders and falls into constitutions in our constitution.”
Stating that discussions were expected to dominate in Parliament such as horrific Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor and other important security matters, the PDP chief wrote, “I sincerely hopes that the opposition, especially India block, enhances the growing concern of Muslim victims across the country.”
Referring to the “targeting” of Muslims and the special intensive amendment (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the pole-bound Bihar, Mufti said that the community was being pushed into “desperate situations”. On the pretext of targeting “Bangladeshi ‘and’ Rohingya ‘, Muslims are being pushed into rapidly frustrated situations. Disturbing media reports have also suggested that some were rightly exposed during their journey to get out of India. The letter stated that another systematic attempt to eradicate the presence of Muslims, disgruntled, and ultimately eradicate their presence in another systematic manner, ”he said in the letter.
The former CM said that when India expresses anger over the treatment of Hindu minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh, there is “complete silence” in our country when Muslims are targeted. “There is an unstable silence, a fear that prevents many people from speaking. As a politician of one of the only Muslim-bound areas, who was chosen to join the Indian Union on a large scale due to your great-grandfather’s vision and secular character, I feel very helpless in my leadership.
