Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LOP) Jeram Thakur on Monday questioned the state’s revenue, horticulture and tribal minister Jagat Singh Negi, who is being represented by LOP for his alleged comments for the recent disaster in several areas in the district mandi including Seraj, which is being represented by LOP.
More than two dozens of people have been killed and many are missing after cloudburst incidents in Mandi district.
Referring to Negi’s alleged statement, he said “I realized the pain of the general public when there was a tragedy in my area”, Thakur said, “There may be some personal differences between me and the minister, but as part of the state government, the revenue minister should not make such irresponsible statements. He should not make such irresponsible statements.
Lop also urged CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu to intervene in the matter. Thakur made these comments during his conversation with the media on some issues, which included an (Executive Engineer) Exan-Rank officer in Thunga in Mandi during the ongoing relief work. Thakur was in Mandi from July 1 and came to Shimla on Sunday.
While “baseless” the allegations of Thakur, Negi accused the former CM of presenting the facts in a wrong way, the statements of their opponents in the media.

“Jeram Thakur has some issues with me. His behavior was never appropriate towards me because he was the Chief Minister and I was in opposition. I am successfully doing my duties as revenue, horticulture and tribal ministers. The entire government stands like a rock behind the people of Mandi, including Raj, with this time of crisis,” said the Revenue Minister.
Meanwhile, while addressing a press conference, Thakur accused the Congress -led Himachal Pradesh government of “insensitivity” and “inaction” in view of the recent disaster in Mandi. He claimed that an executive engineer who was doing commendable work on the ground was shifted under pressure from some political leaders. “To date, no senior official of the state government has been deputed to the mandi,” he alleged.

Thakur claimed that the government’s apathy stems from the fact that the disaster took place in his constituency. “Recently, I received a call from the Minister of Panchayati Raj stating that the Panchayati Raj Institute should be transferred from Mandi. I challenge the government to show a single rift in that institute due to disaster. Then why shift it?” He asked.
