Catching the village outreach programs, reaching the existing Maoist cadres through their families and persuading them to lay their arms – this is what the Buster police plan to take their new initiative with their new initiative ‘Poona Margham’.
Translated as ‘New Path’, the outreach comes as part of the anti-encecation push of the state government, which is to push the Central Government on March 2026 against the MAOIST movement. This comes even months after the state government introduced ‘Naxal Surrender and Victim Rehabilitation Policy -2025’.
According to the police, the campaign is aimed at security forces – especially the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar fighters surrendered to the Maoists recruited – reached the families of existing cadres and persuaded them to “get rid of violence and join the mainstream”.
“Poona Margham is an initiative in which we will insist on reaching the Maoists and will facilitate their surrender and re -resulting in the society,” Bastar Range Sundaraj PK Inspector General of Police told The Indian Express. “We will conduct various community outreach programs meeting with the family of existing Maoist cadres and village elders to highlight the need for peace for inclusive development of the region.”
This initiative also promises skill development training, promotes self-employment and livelihood opportunities and provides psychological counseling and social regenerations.

Other measures as part of the campaign include outreach measures such as medical camps, sports activities and continuing cultural revival programs.
“Campaign cadres are to realize that the Maoist organization is taking its last breath and now, they are left with only one option – Shuns join violence and mainstream. They are urged to understand their families, society and their responsibilities towards their families, society and nation and adopt the path of peace, harmony and rehabilitation.”
