The mortal remains of former Kerala Chief Minister and veteran CPI (M) leader vs Achuthanandan, who died on Monday at the age of 101, will be taken to flames at the ValiChudukadu burial ground in Alappuzha on Wednesday evening.
The body of VS, which was taken by a road in a low floor bus decorated with flowers from the state capital on Tuesday afternoon, reached Alappuzha on Wednesday morning. It took 22 hours to cover a distance of 140 km as a sea of humanity along with the entire route to pay tribute to the communist leader.
Although the cortage was scheduled to reach his home in Panapuzha, Alappuzha at 9 pm on Tuesday, the warmth of the people delayed the last visit. Those who shouted flower petals in front of the bus to carry the body and they raised the immortal versus slogans. Many people coming from far-flung areas waited for hours to give the final red salute to the leader, who lived for the common people and their issues.
When Haripad arrived in the Cortage Alappuzha, the local MLA and senior Congress leader Ramesh Chenitla was waiting to pay tribute. “When VS’s last journey is passing through Haripad, I have to stay here,” he said.
After reaching Alappuzha, the body was taken to his Velikakathu House in Pannpara, where CPI (M) General Secretary MA Baby, State Secretary MV Govindan and senior party leaders were present, including Pankkad Sadiq Ali Shhab Thangal, President of the Indian Union Muslim League.

Later, in the afternoon, the body was taken to the Alappuzha District Committee Office of CPI (M), which was converted into his second home during the early years of political life at the VS undivided Communist Party.
The burial ground, close to the Communist Hearts, is a resting place for hundreds of martyrs of Pannapra-Vayalar rebellion of 1946 and many early leaders of the Communist movement such as TV Thomas, KR Goureyamma, PT Pannose, R. Sugathan and PK Chandranadan.

The rebellion, in which hundreds of martyrs were martyred, was a decisive moment in the construction of the vs. organizer. He was in charge of a camp to make a sharp lance with the planks of the Amercut tree to use the police force’s weapons.
Every year, vs are used to pay tribute to the martyrs at the memory of the incident in October. The last time he visited Valiyachudukadu, in October 2019, he was in bed after a stroke.
