Amid growing dissatisfaction among Muslims against the NDA government on the Waqf Amendment Act and other issues, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat and other senior officials of the organization met prominent Muslim clerics and scholars in New Delhi on Thursday. In the meeting, a host of “national issues” was discussed and the two sides emphasized the need to start a series of interactions between representatives of Hindu and Muslim communities to clean “misunderstanding”.

The All India Imam Sangathan (AIIO) held a meeting in Haryana Bhavan – ‘Samvad’. Along with Bhagwat, senior officials including Krishna Gopal, Ramlal and Indresh Kumar were present in the meeting.

AIIO chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilasi said the meeting lasted for about three and a half hours and representatives of 60 major Imams, Mukis and major Islamic seminars like Dandband and Nadwa attended.

The RSS described the discussion as “positive” in the meeting and said that it was part of a continuous process of having a wide dialogue with all sections of the society. “The main objective is to find out how everyone can work together in the interest of the country. Today’s discussion was also positive,” said Sunil Ambekar, head of the National Publicity and Media Department of RSS.

“There was a detailed discussion on national issues in the meeting. It was decided that there should be a dialogue between temples and mosques, Imams and priests, Gurukuls and Madrasas to remove misunderstandings and confusion about each other and develop a positive atmosphere of harmony and brotherhood.”

He said that it was discussed that all people of castes, religions and religions should have a sense of “nation omnipotent” (nation is supreme) and contribute to nation building.

He said that the possible roles and responsibilities of the Imam and Mukti in taking the nation forward were also discussed in the meeting.

When asked about the approach of the RSS chief on the decision, he said that God appreciated the idea of constant dialogue to clean the misunderstanding and misunderstanding.

Ilyasi said, “It has reached a consensus to take it forward … similar meetings will be held in different parts of the country. The schedule will be decided soon.” When asked about the “national issues” discussed in the meeting, Ilyasi refused to share the details.

Asked whether any “concern” was expressed by the clerics on the controversial issues such as the New Waqf Act and the survey of mosques, Ilyasi said, “It was not about concerns but a meeting to build a trust and a good environment.”
