Police said on Thursday, a group of people attacked members of an NGO in Indore on suspicion of religious adaptation.

The incident took place outside the Indore Press Club campus, where NGO members, including two women, arrived to address a press conference on the allegations that they were involved in converting the residents of the village in Dewas district.

In the video that went viral on Thursday, a group of people allegedly seen disrupting the press conference and there is an uproar. When the members of the NGO stepped out of the venue, they were attacked by the group, who accused the NGOs of indulging in religious transformation.

Sourav Banerjee, a member of the NGO, told reporters, “We have been working in Shukarwa village in Dewas district in areas such as education, healthcare, employment and legal aid. The doubt around the conversion is completely baseless.”

Banerjee said that right -wing groups attacked members of NGO without any evidence. “Let them also bring a single person that our NGO has converted,” he said.

Police said they were investigating the allegations, but no formal complaint was received in the case. A police officer said, “So far, no formal complaint has been received. We are investigating the allegations that have been made.”
