Up MLA Abbas Ansari gets 2 -year jail sentence in the case of 2 -year jail sentence

On Saturday, a court sentenced Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari to a two -year prison in a three -year -old case related to a controversial speech, allegedly threatened government officials. Abbas is now facing possible disqualification from the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Abbas, MLA from Mau Sadar, who was elected on a Suhaldev Bharti Samaj Party (SBSP) ticket, commented at a public meeting during the 2022 assembly election period. He is the son of gangster-politics Mukhtar Ansari, who died in Banda Jail last year, where he was serving his sentence.

“In the same case, the court has also sentenced Mansoor Ahmed Ansari, a local resident and organizer of the public meeting, while Abbas has been imprisoned for two years, Mansoor has been sentenced to six months in jail. Both have been fined, both of them have also been fined,” the prosecution officer Harendra Singh said.

Singh said that Abbas’s younger brother, Omar Ansari is also an accused in the case, but his file was separated from others. The case against Omar is pending.

Six prosecution witnesses were investigated by the court.

Defense lawyer Daroga Singh said that a bail application was transferred after the sentence, and the court granted bail to both Abbas and Mansoor.

He said that he would file an appeal against the decision.

On Saturday, Abbas and Mansoor, who are out on bail, appeared before the court, in which the case is pending.

He was blamed under IPC Section 171-F (an election inappropriate effect or individual), 189 (the risk of injury to public servant), 153-A (promoting enmity between groups on the basis of religion, race, residence and others), 505 (reducing public mischief), and 120-B (criminal consumption).

The case was registered by a police personnel, claiming that on March 3, 2022, he went to the Pahpur area with constables and saw that SBSP leader Abbas Ansari and his brother Omar Ansari gathered a crowd of about 150 people. The complainant said that while addressing the public from the stage, the accused threatened Mau’s administrative officials to “teach a lesson” after the election, a violation of the model code of conduct.

In 2022, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Abbas Ansari in connection with the money laundering case.

Abbas was released from jail in March this year after bail by the Supreme Court.
