Two were arrested after snatching tribal youth, tied to an electric pole and attacked in Atappadi in Kerala

A tribal youth were allegedly stripped of an electric post to “disrupt traffic” in Attapadi in Palakkad district of Kerala. A video of the incident – which reportedly left the youth on the pole in a huge decline for more than an hour – resentment, inspired the police to arrest two truck drivers.

The incident was last Saturday evening when the youth, Siju V, 19, Palakkad was walking on a road in Chittoor tribal township under the limits of Agali police station. The arrested two arrested have been identified as Vishnu Das, 31, and Rezi Matthew, 21. Residents of Sholayyur in Atappadi, both worked as milk collection agents for a local dairy.

“I accidentally slipped on the road when reached a mini-truck. Two people from the vehicle were showering derogatory words and surprised me without any provocation. He said that I had deliberately fallen in front of his vehicle. Their mini truck had enough space to move forward. His police complaint.

Siju said that he was tied in heavy rains for more than an hour. “Later at night, some friends of my township took me to the hospital,” he further said.

The hospital doctors alerted the local police about the attack but no action was allegedly taken. After the video broadcast on social media on Tuesday, the police filed the first information report under various sections of the Indian Judge and prevention of atrocities against the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act.

Meanwhile, the Agali police said that the residents of the mini-truck had also filed a police complaint in which Siju was accused of damaging his vehicle. When he tampered with, Ciju allegedly threw a stone on a mini truck.

Due to the damage of the vehicle, both tied the youth to the post. Police said a case was also registered against Saju on the basis of the complaint of the Ottoman owner.

There is a tribal taluka in Atappadi Palakkad. In 2018, a tribal youth named Madhu was brought here on suspicion of having food from local shops. A gang then caught the youth, tied him to the post in a way and attacked him brutally. A video of the incident allegedly showed some attackers to take selfies with the victim.
