The new railway division working under the headquarters and Northern Railway at Jammu Tawi came into force from June 1. This is the 70th division of Indian Railways.
The new division will oversee an adequate area, which will mainly include classes transferred from Firozpur Division, which is older as Indian Railways. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Jammu Railway Division on 6 January 2025.
According to the Gazette notification published on 29 May, now the major sections under the new division include Pathankot -Jammu -Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan -Sarinagar -Baramula (423 km), Bhogpur Sirwal -Pathkot (87 km), Batala -Pathkot (68 km) and Pathakot -Patkot.
Prior to Jammu Division, DRM Vivek Kumar said that the formation of the division is not only important for connectivity with Kashmir, but also for defense purposes as the area is strategically corded.
