Some parts of the Northeast continued to experience floods and landslides on Sunday, resulting in several districts closed schools and thousands of people were taken to relief camps.
After continuous rains on Friday and Saturday, the area wreaked havoc and 28 people died in various states.
On Sunday, rain continued and left in 19 districts in Assam, the Barak Valley experienced its most intense effects.
According to a rain bulletin released by the Meteorological Department of India on Sunday afternoon, Silker Station in Cachar district of Barak Valley recorded 42 cm of rain in the last 24 hours. Karimganj and Halakandi stations received 35 cm and 30 cm respectively in Barak Valley.
Several rivers in Assam, Brahmaputra at various places, Katkhal in Halakandi district, Barak River in Karimganj district and Buriding River in Tinsukia district, were flowing above the danger level with increasing trend on Sunday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that he talked about heavy rains with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur, and “assured all possible help to deal with any situation”.
According to the Daily Flood report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 1,44,527 people across the state have been affected by the floods till Sunday evening, with the highest number of affected in Cachar and Sribhumi districts respectively – 41,393 and 32,311 people. Lakhimpur district in northern Assam and Nagaon district in Central Assam have also been affected by 21,868 people and 14,798 people respectively. More than 10,000 people have been taken to relief camps across the state.

Two people died in the flood in the Barak Valley. With acute waterlogging in the principal town of Barak Valley, and floods in the rest of the district, the Cachar district administration announced that all schools across the district would be closed on Monday and Tuesday. Four trains operating through the Barak Valley have been canceled by the Northeast Frontier Railway for the next four days as a stretch of tracks between Barigram and Dullaberera has been non-inspected due to water flowing over it.
Manipur is experiencing rapid floods, as well as many rivers are flowing above the flood level. By 8 pm on Sunday, during 24 hours, 1,401 houses were damaged and 55 people were evacuated from their homes by SDRF, police and fire services, and moved to relief camps. The state also experienced 33 landslides in various places in the same period. With these conditions, the Governor ordered the expansion of summer holidays in all schools in Imphal East and West districts or ordered the Army Puti sub-distribution of further orders.
In Mizoram, the Deputy Commissioner of Aizawal district directed to close all schools on Monday, which cited the safety and well being of students among mudls, landslides, rockfalls and other disasters due to heavy rains.
IMD has estimated very heavy rainfall in all states of the region over the next 24 hours, with a high probability of “extremely heavy rainfall” in different parts of Assam and Tripura.
