After a video of a three -year -old boy, it went viral for the month for biryani and chicken fry instead of Upma in his Anganwadi, the Kerala government on Tuesday amended the food menu at childcare institutions in the state.
In the video, the boys were shown to Thrjul’s Shankar, told my mother, “I want to fry biryani and chicken in Anganwadi instead of Upma.” Her mother recorded the video when Shanku, as Thrjul is known as fond, requested her when she was feeding her at home. The mother then posted a video on Instagram in February, after which it was widely shared.
State Health, Women and Child Welfare Minister Veena George also shared the video and said that the government would consider Shanku’s suggestions and modify the food menu in Anganwadi.
On Tuesday, inaugurating the new academic year for Anganwadis in Pathanamthitta district, Minister George fulfilled his promise, unveiling the revised menu.
“This is the first time that an integrated menu is being implemented in Anganwadis. The menu was renewed after discussion at various levels. It includes eggs biryani and casserole. The food menu has been revised to ensure children’s health by reducing sugar and salt intake. Week,” he said.

Kerala has around 33,000 Anganwad, and in 2022, the state government introduced a plan to provide milk and eggs to children through these institutions. Recently, the state government began the process of converting all Anganwadis into “smart Anganwadis” in the state, with study room, rest room, kitchen, store room, dining room, hall, garden and indoor and outdoor play areas. The state also amended the wages of Anganwadi teachers, of which 95% are women.
