Assam flood situation remains critical: death toll 12, Modi dial Himant | Bharat News

The flood situation in Assam continued to affect 2.57 lakh people in 21 districts on Tuesday, which is growing up to 12 in the state.

By Tuesday night, six people lost their lives in the flood -related incidents across the state in the last 24 hours. Deaths including a child have been reported from Halakandi, Sribhumi, Morigone, Cachar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts.

More than 94,000 people were affected in the Barak Valley of Sribhumi district alone.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Barak Valley on Tuesday and the residence of relief camps impressed people in their major city Silkar.

CM Sarma told reporters that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier called a day to inquire about the situation in the state.

“… I made him aware of the sufferings of the flood affected people … I have instructed the administration to eliminate long processes and provide quick relief … We will help each flood affected family in a timely manner. We are standing by floods and committed to resolve their issues …” He said.

More than 39,000 people were taken to 511 relief camps across the state.

The flood situation in Manipur was also important where the population was affected, to 1.64 lakhs, of which 3917 people were vacant for relief camps.

While the number of people affected by the floods continues to be cheerful, IMD has warned of very heavy rainfall in the northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, with a decrease in intensity.
