After families, investigations are being conducted in the Odisha government hospital that families claim that 5 patients have died of 'wrong injection', India news

The death of five people on Tuesday night after allegedly “wrong injection” was given at a government hospital in Odisha motivated the medical officials of the state to order an inquiry.

The incident took place at the southern most part of Odisha at Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital of Tertiary Health Services Center Koraaput operated by the state. The deceased are from different parts of undivided Koraput and Kalahandi districts.

According to official sources, four patients were admitted to the hospital surgery intensive care unit, while the fifth postoperative care and observation were subject to. Sources in the hospital said that five patients died between 10 am and 11 pm and they were important.

“Surgery of four patients died in ICU and another surgery ward. One of the patients of the ICU was suffering from cervical cancer and in the fourth stage. Three other people suffered severe stomach injuries and one had severe liver issues. A road accident caused serious injuries to another patient.”

But the family members of the deceased alleged that all five were stable and they were responding to treatment. A relative alleged, “A staff member on night duty injected and at least three patients died within 15 minutes.”

The Medical College has ordered an internal inquiry, claiming that the sources claim that patients were given a Norepenephrine injection as a protocol. The injection is usually administered to fix the level of falling blood pressure.

Medical Superintendent Sahu said, “We have formed an internal committee involving senior employees of the Medical College. If we get any negligence, action will be taken.” Koraaput Collector V Kerthi Vasan said: “Although we have not yet notice any medical negligence in the case, a detailed investigation will reveal the truth”.

Sources in the hospital said that the postmortem would be operated after the police formalities, to determine whether the wrong injection or medicine was given.

Meanwhile, Odisha’s Medical Education and Training Directorate (DMET) has also established a panel of five senior doctors from two major medical colleges in the state. The panel is until Thursday evening to submit its report.
