The Directorate of Odisha Vigilance said that its officials on Sunday evening arrested an IAS officer in the Act to allegedly accept a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a businessman in Kalahandi district.
2021-batch officer Dhiman Chakma, who is currently posted as a sub-sector in Dharmagadh in Kalahandi district, has been booked under the prevention of the Corruption Act.
According to vigilance officials, Chakma allegedly accepted Rs 10 lakh as a total installment of Rs 20 lakh from the businessman who claimed that he was threatened with action if he did not pay. The businessman later filed a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance.
“The accused IAS officer called Dharmarthi for his official government residence in Dharmagadh, received a bribe amount, verified the note bundles of different sects with both his hands and kept the same inside the table of his residence office. Hand wash and table drawer wash gave positive chemical reaction,” a vigilance officer said.
During the subsequent discoveries at his official residence, Rs 47 lakh cash has also been recovered, vigilance said. Officials said that further search is moving forward and will continue till Monday morning.

Chakma is a native of Kanchanpur in Tripura. After clearing UPSC, the Computer Science Graduate from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala was deployed as an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer at Mayurbhanj, Odisha before being built at the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
Vigilance officials could not dodge for a comment between continuous discoveries in their premises.
