A jawan of the Special Commando Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was killed in an encounter between members of the restricted Communist Party (MAOIST) in the forest area of Birhorda under the boundary of Gomia police station in Bokaro district on Wednesday morning.
Two Maoists were also killed in the encounter, Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta said. The encounter followed a joint operation of security forces launched based on specific intelligence input about the presence of bandits in the forest area of Birhoradera.
Acting on the tip-off, a joint team of Cobra 209 Battalion and District Police started a combing operation on Wednesday morning. On July 16, 2025, around 6 pm, the forces came face to face with the Maoists, which led to the exchange of bullets, the police said.
The injured jawan of Cobra 209 battalion was seriously injured in the operation and later bent in front of his injuries while being vacant for treatment. A search operation is still going on in the area to locate other suspected Naxalites.
The bodies of both the Maoists have been recovered, the DGP said. While one was a Maoist uniform and the other was allegedly in civil clothing. An AK-47 Assault Rifle was also recovered from the spot.
