Thousands of people from different parts of the country gathered at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday to protest against the Waqf Amendment Act.
Several politicians, including MPs and MLAs, also participated in protests mainly under the banner of the Muslim organizations, Building-e-Sharia, operating in Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand.
Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashvi Yadav, CPI (ML), Rajya Sabha member Imran Pratapgari, and Lok Sabha member Pappu Yadav, along with other MPs and Mus, CPI (ML), Rajya Sabha Bhattacharya, Rajya Sabha Bhattacharya, and Lok Sabha Member Pappu Yadav. The state president of the Congress also read the message of support of the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Addressing the gathering, Tejashvi Yadav said that the RJD is opposing the Act in both Parliament and the streets. “… When the amendment Bill about Waqf came to Parliament in 2025, we strongly opposed it in both houses. Maulana Faisal Rahmanani, head of the building-e-Sharia, described the protest as a milestone and not concluded. “This movement will continue until the Waqf Act is withdrawn,” he said. He criticized the Act as unconstitutional and minority, as well as the constitution 13, 14, 25, 26, and 300A as well as the alleged violations of the Supreme Court’s decisions. “We accept the 1995 WAQF law. But these amendments are nothing, but there is a bid to remove the places of our worship and heritage buildings.
