In a major relief for refugees displaced from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), the Uttar Pradesh government is ready to provide land ownership rights to 2,196 families settled in 25 villages in Pilibhit district.
The long -standing demand of these families is now close to fulfillment after a instruction from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The Chief Minister has issued instructions to the concerned departments and only formal procedures remain. After waiting for 62 years, the displaced families are now ready to get the legal recognition of the land on which they are living and farming.
Pilibit District Magistrate Gyanendra Singh told the media on Wednesday that as soon as the final guidelines are received, the administration will start the process without delay.
Baldev Singh Aulakh, the minister in -charge of Pilibhit, thanked the Chief Minister for the decision.

BJP district president Sanjeev Pratap Singh, former district panchayat member Manjit Singh and other local representatives described the move as a long recognition of the sacrifices and conflicts of refugees.
These families were allotted land for housing and farming by the government in 1960, but they were never given legal ownership. Due to the absence of legal rights, they were also deprived of profit under government welfare schemes.
