The State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) of the Revenue Department said in a report on Tuesday that a five -year -old girl drowned in a pond in Sarirbazar area of Tripura on Monday when heavy rains occurred in South Tripura district.
The SEOC recognized the deceased girl as Alina Tripura, a resident of Srikanta Para in Srikanta Bari ADC village under Jolabari RD block. According to the report, the local people saw his body in the pond and recovered it.
The SEOC said that the government has provided Rs 5,000 as interim compensation to the family of the deceased girl.
The rains inspired the water level in the rivers Muhuri, Feni and Logung in South Tripura district.
However, according to the latest reports, the water level in all rivers in the area is going down and relief camps are not required.

Earlier this month, four cases of drowning from West Tripura and Unakoti districts were reported.
About two weeks ago, more than 800 people in South Tripura district had to shift to relief camps after continuous rains.

Last year, 38 people were killed in disastrous floods, over 17 lakh people were affected, and road connectivity, power transmission, flood management infrastructure, houses, public infrastructure, livestock and agriculture lost Rs 15,000 crore.
