Vijay Rupani Death News: Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died on Thursday after Air India aircraft and 241 others crashed in the afternoon near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Union Water Minister and Gujarat BJP President CR Patil announced Thursday evening.
BJP leader, Rupani, after winning the Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections from Rajkot seat, served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021.
The London-Bound Flight AI 171, which Rupni took on Monday, was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese and a Canadian National, besides two pilots and 10 cabin crew members.
Powered by Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Udaan flew around 1.47 pm, delayed its scheduled time, and went down just 9 minutes after being given clearance for the take-off. The scene of the accident, now being widely shared on social media, showed the flight in the flames behind the crash and a group of concrete buildings in Ahmedabad.
