The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) on Thursday approved a series of large-cost purchases of Rs 1.05 lakh crore for the armed forces, including the integrated Common inventory management system for the armored recovery vehicle (ARV), Electronic War (EW) system, three-saves and surfaces.

According to the Ministry of Defense, under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the DAC approved the first step (AON) in the long defense procurement process for 10 capital acquisition proposals, all of which will be saved indigenously. However, the grant of AON does not necessarily lead to the final order.

DAC is the top body to clean the major capital acquisition for defense. The ministry said in a statement on Thursday that this purchase will provide high mobility, effective air defense, better supply chain management and increase the operational preparations of the armed forces.

All these purchases are important in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor launched by India in May under the vengeance of Pahgam Terror Attack on 22 April.

The Ministry of Defense said that AON was also given to the purchase of Moore mines, mine countermessor ships, super rapid gun mounts and submersible autonomous ships. “These purchases will enable the mitigation of potential risks for the Navy and merchant ships,” it said.
