The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) denied the film certification on the basis that Janki is also a name associated with Goddess Sita. This inspired the producers of Suresh Gopi-Starrer to go to the High Court.
CBFC CEO (Mumbai) counter-affidavit presented by CBFC CEO (Mumbai) Rajendra Singh said, “In the film, when the main character, named after Goddess Sita/Janaki, is raped, he is assisted by a person belonging to a particular religious community. The ability to instigate communal tensions and create a divisive statement among religious groups.
The CBFC stated that a film with a tendency to disrupt public order should not be seen through the lens of a indifferent person to religious sentiments. Instead, determination should be made from the point of view of “an average moral man or an ordinary person of general knowledge and discretion”.
Again, referring to a cross-examination of the protagonist, counter-affidavit said, “Presenting such stimulating questions for a character in the name of Goddess Sita will be a tendency to disrupt public order and humiliate religious sentiments … Goddess Sita has been shown to be an aggressive manner to live by defense consultation.”

On Wednesday, after a climb from both sides – producers and sensor boards – logging were solved.
The makers of the film told the court that they were ready to change the title for Kerala’s V/Janaki V/S State and used to mute Janaki names in two examples during the film. The CBFC told the court that if the producer agreed to change the title in V Janaki, was ready to issue a screening certificate for the film.

In an interim order, the single-judge bench of Justice N. Nagresh directed the manufacturers to present a revised version before CBFC. The board was asked to issue a certificate within three days.
The bench of Justice Nagresh, who watted the film last Saturday, will consider the matter on 16 July. The film, initially the film, has already been delayed on June 27, now the producers said that they are temporarily watching the release date of 18 July.
