The Tripura government is implementing three external aided projects to ensure the safety of forests and the livelihood of forest residents, State Forest and Environment Minister Animesh Debarma said on Tuesday.
The first project was funded by the Government of Japan through the International Cooperation Agency of Japan, the second was through the Bank KFW by the Federal Republic of Germany, and the third was a project of Rs 1,764.94 crore.
“The objective of the projects is to generate employment for youth and women through promoting forest-based entrepreneurship,” said Diberma, inaugurated the 76th state-level Vanmahotswa in Khowai district.
Those who live in the hilly regions only take some resources from the forest, said it was a part of traders that destroy forests and their resources for illegal trade.
Referring to the latest Forest Survey of India (FSI), Debbarma said that there has been a decrease in forest areas in the state. He urged the people to plant at least one tree in the name of his parents, sister or any close relative, which as part of the nationwide plantation campaign ‘A paid mother’s name’ 2.0 to increase forest areas in the state.
Deberma further said that he has requested Chief Minister Manik Saha to deploy a minimum of 400 Tripura State Rifle personnel to ensure the safety of forest resources.
On July 5 last year, Saha launched a collective plantation campaign under the mission of ‘5 lakh plants’ in 5 minutes to increase the forest cover. Earlier, the Forest Department had distributed millions of saplings among students, including students, clubs, state and central security forces, etc.
