ASI repaired to plug the seepage through Taj Mahal Dome, India news will be open for public

To address seepage issues, the ASI is making preventive repairs at the Taj Mahal of Agra, even the memorial will be open to visitors. Water seepage was reported through the main dome Last year, some repairs were done after the World Heritage Memorial. However, no such issue has been reported after that, ASI officials said.

“Currently preventive and corrective measures are going on and there is no indication of any threat to the memorial or there is a continuous public reach for the monument,” said an ASI spokesman.

On September 12 last year, a minor seepage was seen from the top of the main dome of the Taj Mahal during heavy and continuous rains. Officials said, “It was found that the primary source of the seepage was damaged (from A) to the joint between the metal peak and the white marble dome,” officials said the issue was immediately addressed.

After the initial repair, the main dome was conducted by a high-level team of senior engineers and archaeologists of ASI. The inspection included the use of advanced technologies including lidar scanning and thermal imaging/screening, ASI’s Agra Circle officials told The Indian Express.

The inspection report detected the presence of moisture in the main dome and metal peaks, as well as a sign of minor corrosion and surface damage on its exterior. Based on the report, the repair work was started last month.

Currently, scaffolding is done in the top part of the main dome. Officials said that once scaffolding, the summit would be assessed, and repair and preventive protection steps will be taken.
