A 50 -year -old woman from Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand was allegedly taken from her house by a group of seven people, under the rituals of indulgence, tortured, dumped with mistrust and suspicion in a market that she is a “witch” (witch).

Criminals reportedly performed a series of rituals and attacked the woman inside the house. “They cut her under their eyes, her chest, navel, finger and toe. He also talked about taking out her tongue,” her son accused.

On July 19 at 3 am, he was taken to a hill in Gaya, Bihar. “There, they forced her to scream, saying that if she was not, they would beat her in the village publicly,” her son accused.

He was later dropped in a marketplace 7 km from his house, about 24 hours after his kidnapping on 19 July at 10 pm.

She reached home by reaching by midnight and moving home.

After returning home, his son took her to the local government hospital around 2 pm on 20 July. “The hospital later sent him to Hazribagh for further treatment,” he said.

He claimed that the accused are trying to settle the case through the head.

Shoo of Barhi police station, Abhas Kumar said that till now, one accused, Shambu Yadav has been arrested, while the rest, including the tantrik, are absconding. He said, “Everyone else has gone underground. We are conducting raids. The matter is serious and related. Last night, we also conducted an raid to search for other criminals, but they did not get,” he said.

Kumar said that he has not received any information about the pressure of the villagers to withdraw the case.
