What was Shukla’s mission? One of the major experiments conducted by Shukla during its time in ISS includes the study of space microalge to understand their ability to produce food, oxygen and biofuels. Their flexibility and versatility may be useful in supporting human life on long -term missions in space. Demonstrating the centrifugation of cyanobacteria, Shukla compared two strains of these photosynthetic microorganisms, which aims to understand how microgravity affects their growth, cellular behavior, and biochemical activity.
