Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Thursday that action will be taken against those responsible for technical flaws in construction Railway overbridge in Bhopal with a turn of 90 degrees,
Yadav said that the overbridge will be inaugurated only after fixing the defects. He said, “Technical defects will be corrected in the construction work of Aishbagh Rob. People responsible for them will be identified and action will be taken against them,” he said, work has started to fix the issue.
The 648-meter bridge in the Aishbagh region, which cost Rs 18 crore to construct, was meant to eliminate the long delay at the railway crossing and shorten the commute for about three lakh people daily. While one part was being built by the Public Works Department, the Railways handled another part.
The Public Works Department has formed a four -member committee including two chief engineers and an executive engineer to assess the design, evaluate accountability and recommend corrective measures.
The Indian Express Earlier this week, reported that a year before the arrival of the overbridge, the red flags were already raised on its strange design.
The report said that on April 4, 2024, a team of supervisors of the railway inspected the site where the bridge was being constructed, after which Deputy Civil Engineer of West Central Railway Division, Sudhanshu Nagayach wrote to PWD Executive Engineer of Bridge Construction Division that “during inspection,” during inspection, the Connection of the Bridge and the APORTH is paid to the connections. “
Nagayach has written that the part of the bridge constructed by PWD and Railways is “almost right angles, which is neither fulfilling functional requirement nor safe for road users”.
