Big Infra Push of Center for J&K: Roads between new tunnels, flyover, 19 major projects Rs 10,600 crore. Bharat News

In a major infrastructure push, the Center has approved 19 major projects for Jammu and Kashmir, including two tunnels, flyovers and roads. The projects are a total of Rs 10,637 crore.

It was announced by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

In a post on X, Abdullah said, “In a major achievement, my government received road and tunnel projects worth Rs 10,600 crore approved by the central government. I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari ji, because we try for his continuous support.

Major projects include Pir’s street and Sadhana nearby two tunnels. Nine kilometers of Pir’s street tunnel, which is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,830 crore, will provide all weather connectivity between the Pir Panjal region of Kashmir and Jammu via the historic Mughal Road. So far, winter has seen the road closely due to snowfall and avalanche.

Other major tunnels to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,330 crore, the aim of providing all weather connectivity between the Line of Control (LOC) in the Frontier district of Kupwara between Kashmir and Karnah region. A seven -kilometer tunnel will also reduce the time of travel.

Apart from two tunnels, the government has also approved a 28-km stretch of Zazai-Shopian Road. The road is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 853 crore.

The Center has also approved three flyovers/high corridors in the valley. This includes a four-lane flyover of Rs 700 crore from Lal Chowk in Srinagar to Qamariwari (7 km), which has a four-lane flyover in Pantchowak in Srinagar (1 km), costing Rs 105 crore, and 2-colomer’s flyover in Magam, which was on Serinagar-Gulmarag Road.

Another major infrastructure project Kupwara is to be developed at a cost of Rs 966 crore.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was also hurry to thank the Prime Minister for approving the projects.

Sinha said, “Honorable PM Shri Narendra Modi ji and Honorable Union Minister and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari for road transport are very grateful to approve tunnel projects for Rs 10,637 crore to 19 mega roads and tunnel projects.”
