Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) from July 2025 to March 2027 will finalize the Chartered Accountancy (CA) firms for the audit of autonomous, local and other bodies in two weeks, senior officials of the constitutional body said on Thursday.
On 27 May, the CAG invited the expression of desire to audit the financial statements of autonomous bodies from CA firms. The time frame for presenting its desire for CA firms was June 5 and officials stated that imperialist firms would soon be finalized.
The CAG invited the CA firms to be part of the auditors team in view of the limited technical resources of the institution, especially in relation to the huge audit landscape in the region.
CAG officials said that thirty cities have been initially identified for audit.
“… these firms will be registered, imperialist and proper privacy will be maintained,” said Deputy CAG (Commercial) Anand Mohan Bajaj.
Meanwhile, a Venkatsan, CPI (M) MP of Madurai objects to CA firms saying that it will dilute the freedom of CAG and is against its constitutional mandate. In response, Deputy CAG Bajaj said, “The audit will be organized by us, so it is not being outsourced. We will explain the issue to the Honorable MP.”
The CAG said that the CA firm would serve as part of a team led by the Indian Audit and Officer -in -charge of the account department, and the CAG will still be responsible for the work and its output.
