The Center on Monday approved the implementation of price reduction payment (PDP) under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for Totpuri Mango in Andhra Pradesh during marketing season 2025-26. It has come as a relief for Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which is a BJP ally in both the Center and the state as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The move aims to benefit the farmers facing difficulties in achieving better prices for their produce due to “market rashes” in three districts – Chittur, Tirupati, and Annamaya districts – where the production of Totapuri Mango in the current season is estimated to be around 6.5 lakh MT.
As per the order issued by the Ministry of Welfare of Agriculture and Farmers, the Center will provide financial assistance to the Government of Andhra Pradesh to intervene in the market. The Center has fixed the market intervention price (MIP) of Totapuri Mango at Rs 1,490.73 per quintal. If the sale price of Totapuri Mango is below this level, both the Center and the state will pay Rs 372.68 per quintal (Rs 25 per cent Rs 1,490.73 per quintal).
The difference of payment between the selling price and MIP will be paid to the farmers through the direct profit transfer (DBT) and the Center and the state will share the cost of 50:50. However, support will be limited to one-fourth (1.62 lakh metric tons) in total estimated production of 6.5 lakh metric tons.
According to a committee order, Totapuri constituted under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Agriculture/Horticulture/Cooperation) of the Government of Andhra will fix the daily sale price of mangoes. The implementation period of PIP under MIS of Totpuri Mango in Andhra Pradesh for 2025-26 season will be 30 days from the first transaction date after the order is issued.

Welcoming the Center’s move, Minister of State for Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said, “This landmark intervention will mold farmers with price accidents, impart and assurance, and will give direct financial relief to thousands of producers across the state – at a time when market uncertainty often threatens rural livelihoods.”
CM Naidu wrote to the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, which came to the Agriculture Ministry after seeking 2 kg of support from the Center for Totapuri mango farmers.
