Five killed in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir after Tempo Traveler Roll in Kant. Bharat News

Five passengers – including a woman – were killed and 17 others were injured when a tempo passenger rolled into a deep gorge in the hill Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the driver lost control of overloaded vehicle while interacting on a blind curve near Ponda on Doda-Bhahar Road. The victims have been identified as Mohammad Ashraf (35), Mangta Wani (51), Atta Mohammad (33), Talib Hussain (35) and Rafaka Begum (60) – all of which were declared “dead” by doctors at Government Medical College Hospital, DODA.

Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition, including a five-year-old child.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Democratic Progressive Azad Party President Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed their condolences on the accident.

Lieutenant Governor Sinha said in a message, “I suffer from loss of life due to a tragic road accident in Doda. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for the rapid recovery of the injured.”

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that he spoke to Doda Deputy Commissioner Hartinder Singh about the incident, “All possible help and medical help is being provided. DC is personally overseeing the entire practice and is giving me regular updates. Another assistance will also be provided.
