Officials said on Monday that search and rescue operations with drones and sniper dogs are being used to trace 28 people, which disappeared after cloudbers, flash floods and landslides, flash floods and landslides raised havoc last week in Thunga, Gohar and Carsog subdivisions in Mandi district.

The Indian Air Force on Monday gave about 130 boxes of relief materials for the remote and badly affected Janeli area to the Janejehali region of Mandi. These consignments included 249 torpoline, 170 blankets, powder milk packets, biscuits, ready-to-eat food, spices and other requirements. Air drops, landslides and washed roads coordinated by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) were important in cutting villages.

Meanwhile, in Karsog sub-division, where the disaster has caused serious damage to the infrastructure and livelihood, SDM Gaurav Mahajan announced the launch of a special sub-division Disaster Relief Fund. Mahajan urged NGOs, philanthropists and citizens to support them in crisis. Deputy Commissioner (DC) (Mandi) and DDMA Chairperson, Apoorv Devgan visited the affected villages of Kutha and Pandav Shila in Dhajul Gram Panchayat on Monday. He assessed the situation, reviewed the ongoing relief efforts, and assured the residents that the administration is committed to reaching every affected family. He also called a multi-departmental meeting in Jenjehali to fix the already ongoing rehabilitation measures.

Along with relief distribution, restoration of important services has become the top priority of administration. The Water Power Department has deployed about 2,000 personnel in Mandi to restore disrupted drinking water schemes. As of 7 July, 588 out of 790 affected schemes have been successfully revived. In the worst hit Seraj assembly segment, 132 damaged water schemes out of 241 have been temporarily restored.

According to the district administration, 81 gram panchayats were affected by the disruption of water supply. Full supply has been restored in 15 panchayats, and partial restoration has been obtained in another 48. Work is going on in the remaining 18 panchayats with the expectation of resume in the coming days.

DC appreciated the cooperation of the local villagers, many of which voluntarily assisted the water power teams by cleaning the debris and helping to re -connect the pipelines. To monitor the progress and ensure that regular ground inspections are being done by departmental officers that clean drinking water should be provided to every village as soon as possible.

Efforts are also underway to restore electricity and road connectivity, which are interrupted in many areas. Devgan said, “The administration is working around the clock to normalize public life. We request the public to remain calm and cooperate. Relief will reach every affected person, and all essential services will be restored as soon as possible,” Devgan said.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri visited the disaster affected Serj Valley in Mandi to review the relief and restoration of the recently after disastrous floods. He assured all possible assistance to the affected families and confirmed the government’s commitment to restore the general situation as soon as possible.

He said that natural disaster caused widespread disintegration and widespread damage to significant infrastructure, especially drinking water supply plans. About 241 water supply projects were damaged in the region, including the largest scheme of Rs 121 crore in Seraj and Balichoki areas under the Water Power Department. The department has estimated a loss of more than Rs 100 crore in Serj constituency alone.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that senior officials had reached remote and challenging areas to expedite the restoration work. Till now, about 140 water plans were partially restored and the rest was progressing on a war footing, said Agnihotri.
