For the first time, SC introduced the OBC quota for staff recruitment. Bharat News

For the first time, the Supreme Court has started reservation for other backward classes (OBCs) in the recruitment of its employees.

It came up with a roster after the apex court, which has been specified for Scheduled Castes (SCS) and Scheduled Tribes (STS) in cases of recruitment and promotion.

On July 3, a Gazette notification stated that the Chief Justice of India amended Rule 4A of Supreme Court officials and servants (terms of service and conduct) in the practice of powers provided by section (2) of Article 146 of the Constitution.

According to the amended Rule 4A, “Reservation in direct recruitment for various categories of posts specified in the schedule, for candidates related to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, physically challenging, paid for the time paid for the time paid for payment for pre-service fighters and freedom fighters will be paid for time. -Can specify on time.

Although the court had a quota for SC/STS, the rules had no provision for OBC quota. Now, this is the first time under CJI Br Gavai.

The roster, which specified the post-wise quota for SCS/STS, was done in 1995 keeping in mind the five-judge Constitution Bench ruling in RK Sabharwal vs Punjab State.

The ruling said that in government appointments, reservation should be post-based (depending on the number of posts in a cadre) and not vacancy-based (based on the number of vacancies arising in a given year). The judgment also states that there should be separate rosters for direct recruitment and promotion. Under the roster, a person identified for a particular category will continue to live with it even after the retirement of the person wearing a post.
