Government-Governor Tasal over Bharat Mata Portrait escalats, suspended incident to cancel the registrar of Kerala University India News

The Registrar of Kerala University at Thiruvananthapuram was suspended on Wednesday for the cancellation of a program last week, which was attended by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who was stressed in place of a Bharat Mata picture with saffron flag in the university hall.

KS Anil Kumar, who has the support of the state government of CPI (M), was suspended by Vice Chancellor Mohan Kunumal, which was given the charge of the university by former state governor Arif Mohammad Khan last October.

The suspension has strongly criticized Kerala’s Higher Education Minister R Bindu.

“The VC has abolished the limit of his power. He is a person who has proved his loyalty to the RSS. He is only one in charge VC. Some Chancellors (Governors) want to saffron the state’s higher education sector … It’s unfortunate that Chancellor wanted to hand over issues in the university,” Bindu told the media.

After his suspension, the Registrar said, “I was appointed by (university) syndicate, so suspension was illegal.”

The Education Minister said that the Vice Chancellor can only keep the case before the syndicate. “In addition, there is no provision in the existing law for the Vice Chancellor to take direct action against the registrar,” he said.

On 25 June, Shri Padmanabh Seva Samithi organized a ceremony with Arlekar at the university. The Registrar objected to the performance of Bharat Mata Picture at the University Hall ordered the cancellation of the program. However, Arlekar turned to the incident and lit a lamp in front of the picture despite the opposition of the left and Congress workers.

Subsequently, Kunumal had given a report to Raj Bhavan that the Governor was insulted by cancellation of the incident and the registrar acted under pressure from external forces.

It comes amid the ongoing quarrel between the state government and the Governor on the presence of pictures of Bharat Mata in official programs. Minister and CPI (M) leaders have stated that the picture is associated with the RSS and should not be used during official events. Last month, Kerala General Education Minister V Shivkutty came out of a function at Raj Bhavan on the presence of the picture.– PTI input
