The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday asked the death sentence for the Gumla rape-and murder of 2018 for a life period, saying that the case does not fall under the “rare rare” category.
A division bench, led by Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay, passed the order while hearing two appeals on Tuesday – one filed by the convict, Bandhan Oran, against the verdict of the lower court and the other demanded confirmation of death sentence by the state government.
The case is related to the rape and murder of a child in Gumla district on 23 September 2018. Guilty, Bandhan Oran was eventually found guilty and sentenced to death.
The matter was then sent to the High Court as the law said that all death penalty should be confirmed.
Special Public Prosecutor Vineet Kumar Vasistha, who represented the Government of Jharkhand, told The Indian Express: “Bandhan Oraon appealed against his sentence and sentence. I appeared for the state and both sides presented detailed arguments before keeping the court’s decision safe.

This is the third example in this month where the Jharkhand High Court has sentenced him to death in a case related to a minor.
On July 18, the court sentenced a convict, Rohit Rai to death, in 2017 a child’s rape-murder said there was a possibility of reform that the convict had no prior criminal records.
