In the Kollam district of Kerala, Antalya, a native of Chavara, was found dead on July 19 in a flat in Sharjah, where she lived with her husband Saharesh Shankar. Soon after his death, the family released a video clipping, showing Shankar’s alleged violent behavior.
In Kollam, the police have registered a suicide case against Shankar, as his family allegedly stated in a complaint that he had to face repeated demands for prolonged torture, misconduct and dowry. Shankar works as a site engineer with a construction company in Dubai.
Atulya’s father, Rajasekharan Pillai said that his daughter is planning to start a job. “Saharesh never allowed her to go for a job. Her plan was to stand on her feet to find a job and take care of her daughter. Last year, she complained to me that she had to face torture from her husband. However, she continued to live with Satish after apologizing and promised to repeat such acts,” said Pillai.
Meanwhile, talking to the media in Sharjah, Shankar admitted that he used to beat his wife after being drunk, but said he did not believe that it inspires him to commit suicide.
Police sources in Kollam said that the FIR was registered under various allegations, including the abolition of suicide, causing serious injuries, and dowry harassment.
“Once Sharjah police meets their legal formalities in the case, we will take steps to bring Shankar to Kerala. We will also receive a postmortem report from them. The family has submitted various digital evidences to allege that the woman was tortured.
