President Draupadi Murmu, who turned 67 on Friday, was taken to tears, when a group of blind children sang a song to wish him.
“I couldn’t take back my tears. They were singing so beautifully. He was singing with his heart,” said at the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons of Persons with Diadun.
The President said that the progress of a country or society can be judged in the way people treat people with disabilities in that society. “The history of India is full of inspiring events of sensitivity and inclusion,” the President said.
He said through the smooth Bharat Abhiyan, which insists on developing an accessible physical environment, transport, information and communication ecosystem, the government is trying to empower and participate in the ‘Divyangjan (disabled person)’ and equal participation.
The President, who is on a three -day visit to Uttarakhand starting on Thursday, inaugurated President Tapovan and President Nikatan in Dehradun.
He also laid the foundation of the President’s Udyan at President Niketan. President Tapovan, located on Rajpur Road in Dehradun, has a 19 -acre President’s property in the foothills of the Himalayas, which has developed with emphasis on spiritual return and ecological protection.
According to communication from the President’s Secretariat, Topovan is a dense forest patch rich and hosts 117 plant species, 52 butterfly species, 41 bird species and seven wild mammals, including some protected species. The region has natural bamboo trees and unknown woodland ecosystems.
