Income tax raids on many properties killed by BJD Minister Naba Kishore Das. Bharat News

The Income Tax (IT) Department is searching on the properties related to the family of former Biju Janata Dal Minister Naba Kishore Das, who was killed by a duty police officer in January 2023.

According to official sources, these are being done at 20 different places – including offices in Jharsuguda, the residence and offices of the late minister, trade establishments in Sambalpur, Sundargarh and New Delhi from the beginning of Thursday. A team of 120 IT officers along with a scientific team and about 40 Central Armed Police Force (CRPF) are conducted by the raids protected by personnel.

Neither the IT department nor the family of Das has so far released a formal statement on the discoveries. But sources said that the business and financial behavior of Das’s family is under investigation.

Das, three -time MLA from Jharsugud Was an influential minister who organized health and family welfare portfolio during the fifth term of former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Then one of the richest ministers is considered, the DAS had commercial interests in the coal transport and hospitality industry.

Das’s daughter Deepali, a former MLA from Jharsguda and son Vishal, who has been taking care of family businesses since the death of his father, was not at his Jharsugud residence during the raid. He could not be contacted for a comment.

It came after months when the IT department raided several properties associated with Braja Kishore Das, super-class contractor and brother of Naba Kishore Das.

On January 29, 2023, Naba Kishore Das was killed on a point-out border while exiting his car in Brajranagar in Jharsuguda district. The suspected, an officer on traffic duty, allegedly had a personal complaint against the minister. In March, the Odisha police re -opened the investigation after meeting the Das family Chief Minister Mohan Majhi for a new investigation.
