India on Thursday confirmed their neutral stance on religious matters, including the issue of rebirth of the Dalai Lama, China objected to the recent comments of Union Minister Kiren Rijuju.
The Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) said in a statement, “We have seen a report related to his statement about the continuity of the Dalai Lama Institute by the Dalai Lama Institute.”
He said, “The Government of India does not take any situation on matters related to faith and beliefs of religion and religion.
Following Mea’s comments, China urged India to work “carefully” on matters related to Tibet, reacting strongly to Rijiju’s statement that only the Dalai Lama and the institution established by him have the right to identify their successor.
Responding to Rijiju’s comments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that India should “be clear about the 14th Dalai Lama’s China-China separatist nature” and “XIzang (Tibet)-Respect its commitments on issues.”
On Wednesday, the Dalai Lama, who had lived in India since escaping from Tibet in 1959, reiterated that his rebirth would be identified by the Garden Fodrang Trust – and he suggested that his successor would be born outside China.
