Jammu and Kashmir: 36 Amarnath pilgrims suffered minor injuries hit by 5 buses in Ramban

Officials said at least 36 Amarnath pilgrims suffered minor injuries, when five buses in Ramban district were slammed in each other on Saturday, the officials said. Buses were part of a convoy under the leadership of Pahalgam Base Camp in South Kashmir from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu. Officials said the accident occurred near Chandkoot, along with Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, around 8 pm, officials said. He said that one of the buses in the convoy collided due to a failure of brakes.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Angi Khan said, “Pahalgam convoy lost control and hit the stranded vehicles on the Chanderkot Langer site, damaging four vehicles and suffered minor injuries in 36 Yatris.” He said that the government officials already on the site took the injured to Ramban District Hospital. Several senior police officers visited the hospital to monitor the treatment of the injured and directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure the best care.

The deputy commissioner said, “Yatris was later transferred to other vehicles for his further visit.” Ramban Medical Superintendent Sudarshan Singh Katoch said that the pilgrims were discharged immediately after first aid. Officials said the convoy left for its destination after replacing the damaged buses.

The fourth batch of 6,979 pilgrims – 5,196 men, 1,427 women, 24 children, 331 sadhus and sadhus, and a transgender – left two separate -different convoys between 3.30 AM and 4.05 AM. While 4,226 pilgrims left 161 vehicles for the Nanwan base camp for the 48 -km traditional Pahgam route, 2,753 pilgrims were leading to a small but stator for a 14 -km Baltal route in 151 vehicles.
