Justice Apesh Kumar Singh appointed the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court India News

Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, Astra Kumar Singh, was transferred and appointed as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court on Monday. From the Telangana High Court, Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul was transferred to the Madras High Court as Judge and Justice T Vinod Kumar of the Calcutta High Court.

Born on July 7, 1965, Justice Singh obtained a BA Honors degree and an LLB degree from Delhi University. He enrolled as a lawyer in 1990 and practiced in Patna High Court from 1990 to 2000. After the establishment of the Jharkhand High Court, he practiced to his height as a judge since 2001.

He was appointed as an additional judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 24, 2012, and confirmed on 16 January 2014 as a permanent judge. He also took over as the Executive Chairman of Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority from April 2021.

He was the acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from 20 December, 2022 to 19 February 2023. On 17 April 2023, he was sworn in as the eighth Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.

In May 2025, the Supreme Court collegium recommended the transfer as its Chief Justice to the Telangana High Court, and the transfer was confirmed on 14 July.

Justice Singh is from a family with a judicial background. His great -grandfather, late BP Sinha, was the sixth Chief Justice of India.
