The BJP on Tuesday accused TMC MLA Ashok Deb of mounting the accused in the alleged rape of a law student at Kolkata College. The party also alleged that the FIR was tampered with, and the police “intentionally removed” the names of those who were identified by the students.
The four-member “Fact-Finding” Committee of the BJP on Tuesday presented its report to BJP national president JP Nadda to watch the alleged rape incident.
After briefing the Mediaperson after submitting the report, BJP leader and former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Satyapal Singh said: “The president of the college’s body, TMC MLA Ashok Deb, is suspected of molding the accused. A private security agency associated with Trinumool Congress allegedly said”
Singh was accompanied by former Tripura Chief Minister Bipbb Deb and Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra.
Mishra claimed that the Kolkata Police Commissioner (Manoj Jha) was destroyed in his response when he asked him to clarify why the names were erased and some letters were replaced in his place.

“The committee faced several obstacles in going to the crime site and meeting the victim. In the report, we have presented that crimes against women in West Bengal have increased, while the police remain inactive, and the administration acts under political pressure. The committee urged the central government to ensure a fair investigation and strict action, as Mamata Bannerji has said that he has to maintain the law and order.
Referring to a similar incident at the RG Car Medical College and Hospital in the state – a junior doctor was raped and killed, instigated nationwide resentment – Singh said that if a law student becomes a gang rape victim, it was a “very serious and embarrassing case.”

“It cannot be more adventurous than this. It is a state under the leadership of a woman Chief Minister, but it has been highlighted that crime and atrocities against women are growing rapidly. There have been many cases where the FIRs of the victim women have not been registered. Those who try to file a complaint are not heard; they are not heard from police stations.”
“And even if an FIR is registered, the police do not investigate the matter honestly. There have been many cases in which the victims have not received justice … In the active police service of about 34-35 years, I have never seen such a case,” he said.
Former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi is also a member of the ‘Fact-Finding’ panel.
