Following the bilateral meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Mark Carney on the occasion of the G7 Summit, India and Canada on Wednesday agreed to nominate new high commissioners in their capitals, with the aim of returning to regular services for citizens and businesses in both countries.

Talking about the meeting, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “The Prime Ministers agreed to take calibrated steps to restore stability for this very important relationship and the first step of these consensus was to restore each other’s capitals on the first date. Other diplomats would follow in appropriate time.”

A statement in this regard was also issued by the Office of Canadian Prime Minister, stating that Carney and Modi confirmed the importance of Canada-India relations based on mutual respect, rule of law and a commitment to the principle of regional integrity and the principle of regional integrity. The statement said, “The leaders agreed to nominate the new high commissioners, with a view to returning to regular services for citizens and businesses in both countries,” the statement said.

In October last year, diplomatic relations between the two countries were reduced by India’s six Canadian diplomats.
