Veteran climber Umesh Zirpe, known for more than three decades of successful campaigns, was awarded the Sahyadri Ratna Award in Nashic on Sunday. This award was received by Milind Gunaji, Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi (IAS), and honored in the presence of advocate Nitin Thackeray.
The award is given by the Shyamitra Foundation in memory of the late Avinash Joshi. And the Foundation has been organizing the Sahadehari Mitra conference in Nashik for the last three years, which has been honored with photography exhibitions, expert lectures, interviews, panel discussions and honored individuals and organizations, who have made outstanding contribution in the fields of mountaineering and rock climbing.
Enthusiasts who involve Shivaji Maharaj’s climbers, adventurous fans and fans across the state participate in the program. This year, the Sahyadri Ratna 2025 Award was honored to Umesh Zirpe.

The Zirpe Guardian is the founder and director of the Giriprami Mountaineering Institute, a Pune -based climber club and the Giriprami Adventure Foundation.
He is also the recipient of Tenzing Northern National Adventure Award 2023 and Shiv Chhatrapati Award 2014. In the last 35 years, Zirpe has a huge experience of adventure in Sahyadi and Himalayan mountain ranges. And it is also known that eight out of the world’s highest eight thousands of the world have increased, including Mount Everest.
