MSC Irina, the world’s largest container, was docked at the Visinjam International Cottage, which was commissioned last month. This is the first call of the ship for a South Asian port. Port Director Divya Ki Iyer welcomed the ship’s captain and crew.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan welcomed the arrival of MSc Irina at the port as a proud and historical moment for the state.
“Kerala welcomed MSC Irina, the largest container ship to call any South Asian port, with immense pride. 399.9m in length and 61.3m in width, with a capacity of 24,346 teus, its arrival in Vizinjam is a historic moment. X.
In a post on X, Karan Adani, Managing Director, Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, said, “… it marks the first visit of the ship to the South Asian coasts, making it not only a milestone for the emergence of India, not only for Visinism but as a major player in the global transit.”
Managed by Port, Adani Ports and SEZ Private Limited, managed on a design, build, finance, operating and transfer (DBFOT) model, is making notable achievements in transmission container handling.
