Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced a fastag-based annual pass priced at Rs 3,000 for the “trouble-free-highway journey”. He said that the new system, especially for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans, would address “long-standing concerns” about toll plazas.

Gadkari said that Fastag-based passes will be effective from August 15 and will be valid for one year or 200 trips, which will also come first.

“In a transformative step towards trouble-free highway travel, we are starting a Fastag-based annual pass from 15 August 2025, Rs 3,000. It is valid for one year for one year from the date of activation to one year or up to 200 visits-which is passed that it is specially designed for non-commercial private vehicles as designed as a car.

He further stated that the annual pass will enable “easy and cost -effective travel” on national highways across the country. Gadkari said that a dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the official websites of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (Morth) along with the Rajmarg Yatra app.

“This policy addresses long -standing concerns about toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, inexpensive transaction. Fastag is an electronic toll collection system managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Fastag stickers are usually pasted on the windscreen of a car. It uses the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to communicate with the scanner installed in the toll plaza. Once the car crosses a toll plaza, the expected toll amount is automatically deducted from the bank account or the prepaid wallet attached to the fastag.
