Parade in Parade undergarments of students at Goa University event, Report of Rights Panel | Bharat News

The Goa Human Rights Commission has taken a notice to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Goa and after the report that some male students “paraded” in their undergarments during the annual cultural festival at the university in February this year.

The alleged event relates to a competition ‘third degree’ organized during the annual cultural festival organized by the fourth year students. In a specific incident, some male students allegedly moved on stage, snatched the undergarments and paraded on stage. An official said that although participation was voluntary, some female students felt uncomfortable and complained to the authorities that it was “indecent”.

The Commission has asked the Vice-Chancellor to appear to give an answer by 23 July. The order issued by the Goa Human Rights Commission under-secretary read: “Taking cognizance of the case, which Prima Feshi has violated the human rights of the students. At 10.30 am before 23 July.”

Vice Chancellor of Goa University Harilal B Menon said that an investigation has already started in this case.

“The program was held without the approval of the university,” he said. “After some students complained, the investigation was started and it is already going on. In the upcoming Executive Council meeting, this (investigation report) will be placed before the Council and action will be taken”.

National Students Union of India state president Naushad Chaudhary told the media: “We condemned the incident and wrote to the university to stop the said incident, but there was no action.
