About a month after the Air India plane accident in Ahmedabad, in which more than 260 people were killed, a parliamentary committee on Tuesday discussed aircraft safety issues with senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the airline and airport. Committee members inquired about the investigation report on the accident and the required timeline for analysis of the aircraft’s black box.
Discussions were held during the meeting of the Public Account Committee under the chairmanship of Congress MP KC Venugopal.
“These tariffs are discussing about the flight fare … The security aspect was also discussed. All the members are very keen to ask questions on the security. This meeting will continue. Once they answer, we will meet again. Some questions on security were answered by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation),” said Venugopal.
He said, “We discussed the fare hike because we discussed the post-Paalagam issue and during the Kumbh (fare hike) … The committee asked about the clear-cut rules on rent and fair sports,” he said.
Former Civil Aviation Minister and NCP MP Prafulr Patel, who is one of the members of the committee, stressed that the DGCA was well equipped, but more employees were required as it “lacks top level skilled people”.
“Many incidents in the last few weeks need to bring Ahmedabad Air Crash into consideration. Security is paramount. Anyone who fly fly wants to feel safe and assures they will reach their destination.
